The Family and The Fishing Net
Dear Readers. The eagle has landed.
Jessica flew in safe and sound to Prague's Ruzyne airport on Thursday night, and we've got a few stories to tell now. Thursday night we got back and checked into the hostel where we were staying. Jessica was quite surprised to hear that we would be staying in a hostel, since for the past 11 days she had been in and out of 5-star hotels in Italy with her school trip. But after 3 days in the hostel, consensus says that she had a good time.
After checking-in at the hostel, we went to the Greek restaurant right next door. Jessica ordered her very first beer...the photo below proves it. Friday we walked around Prague all day, crossed Charles Bridge, and went to see a Black Light Theatre show featuring Beatles music. After that we saw a nice jazz band down close to the river Vltava.
Saturday, we went walking again to Hradcany (Prague Castle) which is quite a hike up quite a hill. We saw the inside of St. Vitus's Cathedral...nice stained glass inside, let me tell you. In the afternoon we met up with Tomas, Eva, and Zuzana, and had a coffee at a cafe (Tomas and I had beer of course). Then Tomas came with Jess and I to see Sparta Prague play Zlin in the quarterfinals for hockey playoffs. It was a good game, even if Jessica may or may not have had a cup of beer spilled on her by some drunken Czech fan (not Tomas...he may or may not have had the same cup spilled on his head). After the hockey game, the night somehow turned into Sunday morning. We went back to the hostel and met up with some friends we met there. There was a guy and girl from New York City (Dave and Olga), and a guy from Australia (Dwayne--Jessica has the hugest crush on him, that's okay though because I thought Olga was kind of cute too). Anyhoo, we all decided we'd spend the last night together by going out, so we went to a pretty cool music bar in a cellar-pub near the Old Square. We spent most of the night there, having some beverages and chit-chat and such. Then we thought we'd like to go dancing, so we went around looking for somewhere to dance at around 2:30am, but nothing really took our fancy. We decided on going back to the hostel to continue the chit-chat. Stayed up all night. At 5:30am, Jessica and I went back to Charles Bridge to see what it looks like when it is empty. Very much well worth it. It was so nice not having to squeeze through throngs of tourists...we had the bridge basically to ourselves. We also think we found the area where the beginning of Mission: Impossible was filmed. Pretty cool.
We went back to the hostel and got about 3 hours of sleep before we had to check out and come back to Hradec Kralove. But here we are now; tired, but here. Jessica came to classes with me today and talked to my students, which I think she liked. It was nice for the students to have someone new to talk to who is their age too.
So, enough talk, here's some pictures (enjoy):
